Privacy policy

This page is written to be believed, so it only describes things that are actually true of this site right now. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to yet: no cookies, no analytics, no tracking scripts. What does exist is one form, and server logs.

What we collect

Only what you type into the contact form, plus two things attached automatically:

• Your message. Required.
• Your name. Optional — we ask, and nothing breaks if you skip it.
• Your email. Optional, and only used to reply to you. It is never added to a list and never shared.
• Which page you reported. When you use “Report a wrong value”, the page address and the data version are attached, so a correction points at one specific published number instead of a vague complaint.
• Your IP address. Used for one thing: rate limiting, so a single client cannot fill the mailbox. It is not used to identify you and not joined to anything else.

Where a message goes

There is no database on this site — the whole thing is static files. A submission is handed to a small mail program on the web server, which relays it over an authenticated SMTP connection to the site owner's mailbox. Your message then lives in that mailbox and in its backups, for as long as those are kept. It is not stored on the web server itself.

The mail program writes one line per submission to the system log — the kind of message, the page, the IP, whether delivery succeeded — and doesnot log the message body.

Server logs

Like any web server, this one records each request: the address asked for, a timestamp, the visitor's IP and the user-agent string. This is used for abuse control and to see which pages are actually being read. Logs are rotated daily and kept for 30 days, then compressed and eventually removed. There is no cross-site or cross-device tracking, and no advertising or analytics identifier of any kind.

Cookies and browser storage

This site sets no cookies and writes nothing tolocalStorage, sessionStorage or IndexedDB. Every response can be checked: none of them carry a Set-Cookieheader. The calculators and the reverse lookup keep your input only in the page you have open — that is why reloading clears it, and why nothing is remembered about you afterwards. Third parties

There are no third-party scripts, pixels, fonts or social widgets on this site: every asset is served from this same domain. Two honest exceptions worth naming:

• Messages sent from the form travel through a mail provider's servers (Google's mail relay) on their way to the owner's inbox.
• Source links leave this site. They are ordinary links to the publications that carry the numbers we verified — no affiliate parameters, no tracking identifiers, and we are paid nothing by anyone we link to.

If advertising is ever added

Nothing is served today. If we later enable ads, this page will be updated before the first impression goes out, and the following would become true:

• Third parties, including Google, may place and read cookies on this site, and may use web beacons or IP addresses as a result of ad serving.
• Google would use cookies to serve and personalise ads based on your prior visits to this or other sites.
• You could opt out of personalised advertising at Google's Ads Settings, and opt out of third-party vendor cookies ataboutads.info/choices.
• Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland would be shown a consent message before any personalised ad cookie is set, because that is required there regardless of what we would prefer.

Your choices, and how to reach us

There is no account, no profile and no behavioural record to export or delete. If you sent us something through the form and want it removed from the mailbox, ask — through the same form, with the word “privacy” in the message — and it will be deleted. We deliberately publish no email address anywhere on this site (see Contact for why), so the form is the route.

This policy is not a negotiation and contains no clause you are expected to read twice to understand. If something here is unclear or turns out to be wrong, that is a bug, and we would like to hear about it.
